HVAC Tips for Pet Safety & Health

In addition to giving your pet healthy food, scheduling veterinarian visits, and providing excellent grooming, it is also equally necessary to maintain a safe and healthy environment for your pet.  Below are four tips HVAC management which aids in keeping your pet and family safe.

  • Minimize Pet Dander. Cats and dogs shed microscopic skin flakes which are commonly called dander.  Dander is so light that it is often airborne and easily transferred as your HVAC operates.  Hence, one place that dander can accumulate is within HVAC filters.  To minimize the amount of dander in your home clean regularly by mopping, dusting, and vacuuming.
  • Regular Filter Changes. The more pets that you have (especially ones that shed a lot of hair), the more often you will need to change your HVAC’s filters.  Locate where your main HVAC filter is.  Also, recognize that there may be several of filters throughout your home.
  • Duct Maintenace & Cleaning. Like anything else, your HVAC system’s air ducts can gradually fail.  Over time air ducts can shift, develop cracks or holes, and even become clogged.  Cleaning and maintaining your air ducts is essential to keep the air quality in your home safe.

All the above tips can be very helpful in increasing the healthiness of the environment of your pet and family.  Design Air provides a variety of HVAC services including periodic duct maintenance.
