We don’t know many customers who look forward to purchasing a new HVAC system.  However, sometimes replacing your old system with a new one is necessary.  If you are in the market for a new HVAC system, you’ll most likely want on that will last for as long as possible.  At Design Air, we’ve seen systems that last between 10 to 25 years.  Below are a couple of tips that we give to our customers who are about to open their pocketbooks to secure a new HVAC system.

Understanding The Brand Differences

At first glance, you’ll notice that there are dozens of brands of HVAC systems.  Upon closer inspection, you’ll learn that many brands are designed by a common manufacturer.  For instance, the following manufactures make these brands:

  • Goodman: Amana & Janitrol
  • Lennox: AirEase, Allied, Armstrong, Concord & Ducane
  • Nortek Global HVAC: Frigidaire, Kelvinator, Maytag, Westinghouse
  • Rheem: Ruud
  • United Technology: Bryant, Carrier, Day & Night, Payne, and Tempstar
  • York: Coleman and Luxaire

You will never find a consensus among HVAC experts as to which is the best brand.  This is a good thing.  Competition is stiff.  Nevertheless, certain brands seem to always be at the top of the pack.

Performing A Load Analysis On Your Home

You should always get a load analysis for your home before installing a new HVAC system.  This process gives a calculation of the BTUs required to cool and heat your home efficiently.  It takes into consideration the size of your residence as well as its doors, insulation, and windows.  A common mistake is to get an HVAC system that is too large or small.  The wrong size can increase your energy costs significantly.
